Palm Bay runs a long way inland, and moisture does not behave the same at both ends of the city. Closer to the lagoon and along the Turkey Creek corridor, the Atlantic sea breeze keeps humidity up and shaded, low lying lots stay damp long after a storm has cleared. The heavy afternoon storms that build through the summer arrive as wind driven rain, which behaves differently from a roof leak: it gets pushed sideways into stucco, window flanges and slider tracks, then works down to the slab interface. The houses are only a few years old, so owners rarely suspect them, and the call usually comes after a musty smell in a closet or a spare bedroom rather than after anything visible on the wall.
